Cotton wall hanging, 'Fertile Earth' Home Decor Wall Hangings Tapestries Hilltribe Collection (Thailand) ![]()
The ancestral mystique of the earth
itself is manifest in this dramatic wall hanging. Designed by
Suneeporn Tanjaipetch, the lovely textile is woven by hand in
100% cotton by Yao artisans. The traditional floral motif is
highlighted in colors from herbal dyes and stitched to the
wall hanging. Named din phukao, meaning "earth soil," the design
adds contemporary beauty to any interior. The Yao is
an ancient culture, whose ancestors inhabited the Hunan Province of
China some 2,000 years ago. Their life styles are so
unique that the various communities are quite different from one
another, but their villages are commonly found in dense forests
teeming with wild animals and rich in natural resources, allowing
them to develop a diversified economy. Expert weavers, dyers and
embroiderers, they wove special fabrics made from tree bark and
dyed them with grass seeds and later became expert at
beeswax and indigo-dyeing cloth during the Han Dynasty (206 B.C.-220
A.D.); today, their magnificent cross-stitch embroidery richly decorates the clothing
of every member of the family. NOTE: As each
item is a unique expression of the artisan's creativity, the
products you receive will feature a very similar color and
pattern but may not be exactly identical to the one
in the photograph. Bamboo rod for hanging included.
