Inca. The Paucar Family craft this piece of ceramic and
paint by hand distinctive motifs known as tocapu. Used in
place of an alphabet, a tocapu featured stylized images that
denoted social or military standing. Tocapu also told of events
as in this vase, which celebrates the harvest ceremony with
a farmer and his llama at work in the fields
under azure skies. To preserve the vase's unique sheen,
wax once in a while.
